Everlasting One
what wonder it is, that we can offer our prayers
knowing you accept them all
whether they use carefully chosen words,
are beautifully crafted,
or we simply hold our hearts and minds open in silence, for words will not come
thank you for this most precious of gifts
Gift bringing One
what wonder it is, that you bring us the gift of mercy
offering Joseph as an example of mercy
help us to be merciful to others
as you are to us
may we treasure your gift of mercy
being quick to forgive and slow to anger
being willing to be shaped by the spirit’s prompting
to your honour and glory
Glorious Christ
assist us to live in unity, as your siblings
within this community of faith
and with our neighbouring congregations
may our unity good and pleasant
and may your blessing be bestowed on all who work for the unity of the body of Christ
those on presbytery planning teams
working together, while juggling complex demands
elders who bring spiritual and practical leadership in Kirk Sessions, Presbyteries and national church committees
Bible Societies across the globe, helping others receive your Word in their own language
organisations such as Open doors, who support the persecuted church in places where it is dangerous to be a Christian
unite us with all our siblings in Christ
make us the world-wide example of unity in diversity
bringing your love and mercy into this world
Merciful God
there are many who need mercy in our communities
those struggling with addictions
those angry at what is being done to them by others
those who are far from home
those who abuse power
those who are abused by those in power
those who refuse to live in unity with others
those who merciless
may they all receive and know your mercy,
Lord God
revealed through Christ Jesus
and poured out by the spirt as a blessing
for your glory and honour
now and always
Amen
